چکیده

Analyses of serum immunoglobulin (Ig) levels were performed in patients with myasthenia gravis, polymyositis and dermatomyositis, and in normal subjects. The mean IgG levels were elevated in the disease groups and there was minimal depression of serum IgM levels in nonthymectomized myasthenic patients. There was no consistent pattern with regard to selective immunoglobulin class abnormalities, effect of thymectomy in serial studies, and no evidence of gross humoral immunological deficiency as manifested by consistent depression of serum IgA, IgG, or IgM in the disease groups.

Mitogen and muscle extract induced in vitro proliferative responses in myasthenia gravis, dermatomyositis, and polymyositis.

We have compared the lymphocyte in vitro proliferative response induced by muscle extract, phytohaemagglutinin, and pokeweed mitogen in peripheral blood lymphocytes of patients with myasthenia gravis, polymyositis, dermatomyositis, and normal subjects. Similar mean responses to antigen and mitogen were seen in cells of all groups of patients. The proliferative responses induced by muscle did no...

Mixed connective tissue disease presenting myasthenia gravis.

We herein describe a 41-year-old female patient with an association of myasthenia gravis (MG) with anti-acetylcholine receptor (AcR) antibody, mixed connective tissue disease (MCTD) and Sjögren's syndrome (SjS). We reviewed the reported association of MG and MCTD, systemic lupus erythematosus, progressive systemic sclerosis, polymyositis and dermatomyositis, and SjS. Since we could find only tw...

Radioimmunoassay of serum myoglobin in neuromuscular diseases.

Radioimmunoassay of serum myoglobin was performed in 85 patients with muscular symptoms. Elevated levels were found in 93% of patients with myogenic myopathy, in 54% with myasthenia gravis and in 50% with neurogenic myopathy. All 11 patients with polymyositis had elevated myoglobin concentrations. In six of seven patients with polymyositis, who were followed up with repeated determinations, a c...

Immunolocalization of protein-bound 3-nitrotyrosine in inflammatory myopathies.

3-nitrotyrosine (3NT) is regarded as a "footprint" of nitric oxide generation. The study aimed at documenting the presence and distribution of 3-nitrotyrosine (3NT) in muscle tissue samples from patients with idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIM) as well as from those with non-inflammatory myopathies to consider whether polymyositis (PM) and dermatomyositis (DM) could be distinguished based ...
